One song that I often listen to when I am stressed is the hymn, "Abide With Me!" I have two different versions of this hymn on my iTunes - one by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and one by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, because I'm a nerdy Doctor Who fan and that was in one of the episodes. I think that the words of this hymn are so tender and are a perfect prayer for when someone is truly in need of peace and comfort.
There are actually 8 verses to this hymn (which can all be found here), but these are the three that I know and sing in church:
- Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide;
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me. - Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see—
O Thou who changest not, abide with me. - I need Thy presence every passing hour;
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s pow’r?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.
